Description

Mupirocin is an antibiotic used to treat skin infections caused by certain types of bacteria. It is also used to prevent infections in people who are at a high risk of getting an infection. Mupirocin works by stopping the growth of bacteria.

Direction of Use: Mupirocin is usually applied topically, as a cream or ointment, to the affected area of the skin. It should be applied as directed by a healthcare provider, typically 2-3 times daily for 5-10 days.

Contraindication: Mupirocin should not be used in individuals with a known hypersensitivity to the drug or any of its components, or in those with a history of allergies to antibiotics.

Doses and Administration: The usual adult dose of Mupirocin is a small amount applied to the affected area 2-3 times daily for 5-10 days. The pediatric dose is based on the child’s weight and is usually given as directed by a healthcare provider.

Side Effects: Common side effects of Mupirocin include itching, burning, and redness at the site of application. If a severe allergic reaction occurs, stop use and seek medical attention right away.

Interactions: Mupirocin does not interact with other medications.

Warnings and Precautions: Mupirocin should not be used to treat deep or puncture wounds, animal bites, or serious burns. Patients should inform their healthcare provider if they have a history of allergies to antibiotics, or if they are pregnant or breastfeeding. Also, you should be in regular contact with your healthcare provider while using Mupirocin.
