Description

Nitroglycerin is a medication used to treat and prevent angina (chest pain) caused by coronary artery disease. It works by relaxing the blood vessels in the heart, allowing more blood and oxygen to flow to the heart.

Direction of Use: Nitroglycerin should be taken as directed by a healthcare provider. It is usually taken sublingually (under the tongue) or applied as a patch to the skin.

Contraindication: Nitroglycerin is contraindicated in people with severe anemia, increased intracranial pressure, and certain other conditions. It should not be used within 24 hours of taking certain medications, such as sildenafil (Viagra).

Doses and Administration: The usual starting dose for nitroglycerin is one tablet or spray under the tongue. The dose may be increased as needed, but should not exceed the recommended maximum dose.

Side Effects: Common side effects of nitroglycerin include headache, dizziness, and flushing. These usually go away after the first few doses. More serious side effects are rare but may include severe low blood pressure, fainting, and severe allergic reactions.

Interactions: Nitroglycerin may interact with certain medications, such as sildenafil (Viagra), tadalafil (Cialis), and vardenafil (Levitra), and should not be used within 24 hours of taking these medications.

Warnings and Precautions: Nitroglycerin should be used with caution in people with low blood pressure, anemia, or certain other conditions. It should not be used in conjunction with certain medications, such as sildenafil (Viagra), tadalafil (Cialis), and vardenafil (Levitra), and should not be used within 24 hours of taking these medications.
