Description

Metformin Hydrochloride and Glimepiride is a combination medication used to lower blood sugar levels in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Metformin Hydrochloride is an oral diabetes medicine that helps control blood sugar levels and Glimepiride is a sulfonylurea that helps stimulate insulin production.

Direction of use:

Take metformin hydrochloride and glimepiride by mouth, usually once or twice daily with meals as directed by your doctor.

Contraindication:

You should not use this medication if you are allergic to metformin or glimepiride, or if you have:

Type 1 diabetes

Severe kidney or liver disease

Diabetic ketoacidosis (call your doctor for treatment with insulin)

Doses and Administration:

The recommended starting dose is 1 mg/500 mg once daily, with the maximum dose is 2 mg/1000 mg/day.

Side Effects:

Low blood sugar (hypoglycemia)

Nausea, stomach upset, diarrhea, constipation

Headache

Blurred vision

Skin rash or itching

Lactic acidosis (a buildup of lactic acid in the body)

Interactions:

Alcohol can increase the risk of low blood sugar.

Taking certain other medications may also increase the risk of low blood sugar.

Tell your doctor about all your current medicines and any you start or stop using.

Warnings and Precautions:

If you have severe kidney or liver disease, your body may not be able to process this medicine properly.

Low blood sugar can happen more often when metformin hydrochloride and glimepiride is taken with certain other diabetes medicines.

Lactic acidosis is a rare but serious side effect of metformin hydrochloride.
