Description
Drotaverine is a medication used to relieve smooth muscle spasms, such as those that occur in the urinary tract, gastrointestinal tract, and biliary tract. It is also used to relieve menstrual cramps, and to help with the passage of kidney stones. Drotaverine is an antispasmodic drug.
Direction of use:
Drotaverine is usually taken by mouth, usually 2-3 times a day. It is usually taken before meals and at bedtime, or as directed by your doctor. Follow the instructions on the label.
Contraindication:
Drotaverine is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to the drug or any of its excipients, as well as in patients with obstruction of the gastrointestinal tract, or in patients with a history of peptic ulcers.
Doses and Administration:
The dose of drotaverine will depend on the indication for which it is used. The usual adult oral dose is 80-120 mg 3-4 times a day, before meals and at bedtime. Doses for children should be determined by a healthcare professional.
